My word for the year (plus my 18 for 2018)

Happy New Year, friends! I wish for you bright and wonderful things in 2018.The word I've chosen for this year came to me quite quickly and I can see why. In 2017, I felt like I was more inward-focused. This year, I want to continue on that path but I also want to engage more with others. So, connection is my word for the year.

Around the time I picked my word, my sister mentioned her "18 for 2018" list, inspired by the Happier podcast. I loved the idea of picking specific things to do during the year and found that the list I began making was closely tied to my word for the year. So, here's my 18 for 2018:

  1. Entertain often (focus more on conversation and less on serving "perfect" food)

  2. Call and text friends and family more often

  3. Schedule girls' night outs

  4. Create or join a writing group (started on this one already!)

  5. Submit short stories for publication

  6. Self-publish my writing

  7. Read the books on my bookshelf vs. buying books or getting them from the library (this is going to be a tough one!)

  8. Use up what I have, rather than saving things for special occasions

  9. Complete a scrapbook project (I'm so close to being done!)

  10. Organize and print photographs

  11. Take more videos of my boys

  12. Volunteer with my family

  13. Begin a meditation practice

  14. Read something inspiring every day

  15. Prioritize self-care over my to-do list

  16. Follow a skincare regimen

  17. Do a little each day, rather than a lot at one time

  18. Celebrate small wins

Do you have a word for the year? What's on your 18 for 2018? I'd love to know.
